I’m going to do something I’ve seen done in places like Emily Care’s and Meg Baker’s Fair Game and Thomas Robertson’s Musings and Mental Meanderings: an interview with an indie RPG designer. Who better to pick than Tim C Koppang, the author of the highly interesting new game Hero’s Banner? I have friends who are interested in the game as well, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask the questions here instead of by personal email.
This is how it will work: I’ll ask one question at a time in comments to this entry and let Tim answer them, and after my first five questions anyone can jump in with their own questions until Tim thinks it’s enough.
So I don’t know much more about Tim than that he’s written Hero’s Banner, so instead of me trying to write an introduction based on what it says on his website I’ll let Tim. The questions begin:
1. Tell us a bit about yourself: What do you do for a living, where do you live and how did you start playing roleplaying games?
If you’re interested in Nordic-style LARP and freeform you should check out Sven’s post Prosopopeia about a Swedish pervasive LARP that some of my friends are involved in, and Jonas Barkå’s post A really good text on the Nordic Scene with a link to that really good text.
I don’t have much in the way of comments, I just want to send people who happens to wander by here in their directions. Oh, and another friend of mine has bought Burning Empires, so now I can get all the information I want without shelling out for the book. And still no luck with the checkout process for Hero’s Banner at Lulu.
I’m interested in decision making, both in general and in roleplaying games (see The importance of decisions). That makes the game Hero’s Banner highly interesting, and I’ll have to check it out. Don’t know if I’ll buy it just yet, but I’ll definitely try to dig up more info on it.
I had a fantastic Sorcerer weekend, and I’ll write a play report as soon as I find some time to type it up (or down, how is it?). The sense of reward as game master was one of the best I’ve had, but totally different from anything I’ve experienced before.
